🗽 Explore NY's Canandaigua Wine Trail

Hi Reader,

This fall, I made it back to one of my favorite U.S. wine regions: New York’s Finger Lakes.

Did you know glaciers carved out these 11 long, narrow lakes? And a handful of them are now home to vineyards that thrive thanks to the lakes’ natural cooling and warming influences. 🍇

This time, I explored the smallest of the wine trails: Canandaigua Lake.

With only a half dozen wineries, it’s perfect for a day trip if you’re staying on another lake.

But downtown Canandaigua also makes an amazing home base with its lakeside lodging, farm-to-table dining, shopping, and watersports galore.

Here’s a sneak peek at my recommended stops:

  1. ❤️ Inspire Moore Winery: A boutique winery that names each wine after a feeling they want to inspire more of. Think Love, Joy, and Wisdom.
  2. 🍷 Heron Hill Winery: Sip award-winning wines from sustainably farmed vineyards in their welcoming tasting room, set in a 100-year-old barn overlooking the vineyard.
  3. 👩‍🍳 New York Kitchen: A non-profit celebrating NY’s food and drink scene with a tasting room pouring local wines, wine education and cooking classes, and a café overlooking the lake.
  4. 🏖️ The Lake House: A stunning lakeside resort with outdoor saunas, a heated pool, and delicious on-site dining at Rose Tavern and the Sand Bar. Perfect for wrapping up a day of wine tasting!

Whether it's a quick day trip or a laid-back weekend escape, this guide has everything you need to plan your Canandaigua Lake adventure.

Cheers,

Laura

P.S. Don’t miss my guides to Seneca Lake wineries and Keuka Lake wineries for even more Finger Lakes inspiration! 🥂

Hi Reader, Well, this is a first… I was interviewed on a podcast! 😅 I recently joined If Vines Could Talk, hosted by Steve Salisbury, to chat all things wine travel in Michigan. The episode just went live, and I’m equal parts excited and cringing at the sound of my own voice (anyone else relate? 😬). Steve’s a huge advocate for the region, and his connection runs deep. His family even planted some of the first vines in Southwest Michigan! We had a great conversation covering everything from...

Hi Reader, I still remember one of my most stressful wine trips where I visited seven tasting rooms in a single day. By the third stop, I was rushing through pours, skipping the winery cat, and mentally calculating drive times instead of enjoying the wine. Lesson learned. 🤦♀️ A well-paced plan makes all the difference between a fun, relaxing trip and one that feels like a wine-themed marathon. 🏃♀️🍷 So, I wanted to share some of my go-to tips for planning a balanced wine tasting itinerary: ⭐...

Hi Reader, I’m getting excited for a couple trips coming up to California and Canada. But flipping through my notes and photos from Tuscany has me seriously craving Italian wine (and pasta, let’s be honest). 🍷🍝 One of my favorite stops was the hilltop town of Montepulciano. It has some of the most unique wine cellars I’ve ever visited. And it’s the birthplace of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. That’s the Sangiovese-based wine, not to be confused with Montepulciano the grape. The best part? It’s...
